Our seniors are active! There is always a monthly event where they can enjoy each other’s company while doing or seeing something interesting and stimulating. Recent mid-day events have included a sight- seeing cruise around Manhattan, a guided tour of the New Yankee Stadium, a visit to the Yale Center for British Art, our annual Christmas luncheon, a presentation by Westport’s First Selectman, a musical at Westport Playhouse and a guided historical bus tour of Green’s Farms and Westport beach areas. Over the last year about 75 members and friends have participated in our diversified events. Newcomers and friends are most welcome. For current information check the homepage of this web site or contact Wayne Balfanz at 203 762-2063.

Betsy is the founder and leader of Guideworth, a small Fairfield based organization that works with seniors and their families to provide practical confidence building solutions to help seniors maintain their independence in a safe and meaningful environment. On Wednesday OCTOBER 3 we are planning a substitute cruise across Long Island Sound. Our plan is to meet at GFC at 9:45 AM to drive to Bridgeport Harbor where we will board the 10:30 AM ferry for a 75 minute cruise to Port Jefferson. At Port Jefferson the Blomfield’s have selected the WAVE a nice near the boat restaurant for a group lunch. After lunch you can get on the 1:30 PM ferry, or you can explore some of the local shops and catch the 3 PM ferry to Bridgeport. The cost for the round trip ferry ride is $18 per senior payable on board. The large ferry has an elevator that is available for boarding.
Note: This trip across Long Island Sound was originally scheduled for September 26. Date changed due to inclement weather. Our previously scheduled September trip to Mystic Harbor has been cancelled because of the long drive and the likely shortage of drivers.
On Wednesday October 24 we plan to go to see RAISIN IN THE SUN at the Westport Playhouse. This moving play is about family life on the south side of Chicago in about 1950. It deals with poverty, racism and three generation family conflicts as an African American family strives for a better life.
WEDNESDAY, November 28 - Ground Zero (if museum is open or a local area trip)
WEDNESDAY, December 19 - Christmas Luncheon at GFC
In addition, Del Horsfall and Donna Reisner will be managing the reservation process for $20 per ticket for the following matinees at The Westport Playhouse:
May 23 "Into the Woods"
June 27 "The Year of Magical Thinking"
Sept 12 "Harbor"
