Green's Farms Church

GFC Seniors

What the heck is a “Senior” these days anyway? Most of our seniors run circles around the younger crowd. Our seniors are active! The seniors at GFC have many opportunities for fellowship that help to build lasting relationships and a strong sense of Christian community. This group meets monthly, engaging in a variety of activities that are interesting and stimulating. Some of the most recent mid-day events have included a sight- seeing cruise around Manhattan, a guided tour of the New Yankee Stadium, a visit to the Yale Center for British Art, the annual Christmas luncheon, a presentation by Westport’s First Selectman, a musical at Westport Playhouse and a guided historical bus tour of Green’s Farms and Westport beach areas. Over the last year about 75 members and friends have participated in our diversified events.

In addition to the monthly events, the group also meets for lunch, which they call Chat and Chew. These lunches are an opportunity for the seniors to hear various speakers come and talk with the group on topics that are specific to seniors. For instance, the group met to learn about exercise and nutrition, options for home health care, and understanding the probate process.

Lastly, the group has begun a visiting program with their peers. There are a group of seniors who visit, call, and write notes to those seniors who for a variety of reasons are unable to attend church as regularly as they used to. These seniors offer a spiritual friendship to those most in need, and work closely with the clergy. Newcomers and friends are most welcome. For upcoming events check our homepage, or contact Sandy Atwood, 203-292-9494
