A Tradition of Inspired Music
Music plays an important role in the life of Green's Farms Church. Our music program is very eclectic, and our congregation enjoys a wide range of musical repertoires and styles throughout the church year. There are many opportunities for participation in the music program, and all interested musicians are warmly invited to join us. For more information contact Eileen Hunt at 227-2728 Ext. 103.

The wonderful month of December is just around the corner, and with it comes all of the glorious music for Advent and Christmas! Throughout history, composers have been inspired to write some of their most beautiful music for the celebrations of the birth of Christ. It is always a pleasure to choose and prepare the special repertoire which makes our celebrations at GFC so meaningful and inspiring for all who sing, play or hear this great music, and 2012 will be no exception. On December 2, trumpeter Kenneth Tedeschi will join our choir and soloists for selections from Bach's Christmas Oratorio, a delightful way to begin our season. On December 9, harpist Wendy Kerner will join us for our annual Advent Music Sunday, a celebration of scriptures and music, featuring selections from Benjamin Britten's brilliant Ceremony of Carols along with some delightful Australian carols and some lovely repertoire sung by our soloists. On December 16, flutist Jane Shelly joins us for a lovely setting of the traditional carol "O Little Town of Bethlehem" in a fresh, new arrangement by American composer Stephen Paulus, along with familiar carols. On December 23, we are privileged to have The Arlberg Brass Quintet in residence. They will play festive music for brass and organ, all of the carols, and will augment our forces to present our annual pageant. We are already hard at work on rehearsals for all of the above; rehearsing for December actually begins in September, three months ahead. It is a huge assignment, but one which we tackle with excitement and enthusiasm.
I want to thank everyone who has participated in our GFC Festival Choir in October and November! It has been an absolute joy having you with us. This is a great way to participate in the Music Ministry at GFC and only requires a small amount of your time, coming at 9:30 AM on the day of the event. I would like to invite any and all singers who would like to participate in December to come on December 23 when we will sing traditional carols with our brass quintet. A very festive way to begin the Christmas celebration, indeed! Singers of all ages and abilities are invited; the only requirement is a love of music and a desire to participate in our Music Ministry.
