The Congregational Church of Green's Farms

Welcome!

At one point or another, each of us was new to Green’s Farms Church!  We know some of the questions that you might have about venturing into our Sunday service for the first time.  In order to make your visit as enjoyable as possible, the following information will be helpful in understanding what to expect.

Where are you located?

We are located at 71 Hillandale Road, Westport CT.  We are one block off of the Post Road, near Barnes & Noble.

When should we arrive?

You should plan on arriving 5-10 minutes prior to the start of the service times noted on the weekly services page.  When you come in the front door, there will be a greeter who can direct you to the main “meetinghouse”.  If you run a little late (we’ve all been there!), there will be time to join the service when you arrive.  The ushers will help you.

Where do we park?

We have two spaces specially reserved for visitors to make your visit a little easier.  They are located in the main parking lot, right next to the meetinghouse.

What should we wear?

As a congregation of many blended cultures, religions and ages, dress on a Sunday morning will vary across the board.  Our youth are casual and comfortable.  Our adults tend to be in what is termed “business casual” – slacks/skirts/jackets (or not), some ties.

What do we do with the kids?

Our children’s and youth ministries are central to the mission of our church and we have extensive activities for each age group.  We also believe that families should have a time of worship together.  Our format is to have the children in the meetinghouse during the first 10 minutes or so of the service, with this period concluding with the children’s message delivered by one of our staff members.  Once the children’s message is completed, your children should go to their assigned classrooms.  The classroom assignments for preschool, pre-teen and youth always stay the same.  The classrooms for grades 1-5 change weekly based on the specific activity for the day.  The bulletin notes which room each grade should go to.  There are maps of each classroom location in the hallways and you can always ask for help along the way.  We recommend on the first visit you accompany your children to their class, then return to the service.  When the service is over, you can pick up your child in the classroom and head to the social hall for coffee/juice and snacks.

What about infants?

With a congregation that includes many young families, Green’s Farms is especially prepared to help you manage your infant and enjoy your worship experience.  There is a nursery specially staffed to handle infants while you are in the service.  The initial greeter  can assist you in finding the location. If you prefer to keep your infant with you, we ask that you excuse yourself from the service during the minister’s message if your child becomes restless.  We have a special place in the parlor, adjacent to the meetinghouse, where you can be comfortable with your infant while hearing the service in its entirety through our audio system.

What is a service like?

Our services typically run about an hour.  In the first several minutes of the service there will be announcements and a time for everyone to “greet one another”.  As a visitor, you will never be singled out or asked to introduce yourself.  After announcements and initial music, there is a children’s message delivered by one of the ministers.  Children, Pre-K through grade 5, are invited to the front of the church for this brief message related to the topic of discussion for the day.  If your children want to stay with you for the first time, that’s great too!  After children recess to their classrooms, we have music, a pastoral or “morning” prayer, a scripture reading, a minister’s message relating this reading to our everyday lives, an offering and closing music.  As a visitor, you are not expected to participate in our offering, unless you desire to do so.

Will I have a chance to meet people?

Each Sunday after the service there is a time for coffee/juice and conversation, either in our social hall or outside on the front lawn.  This is a great time to meet people and get to know more about our community.

Do you need special assistance for your Sunday visit?

If you have questions about special needs for a family member, or handicapped access, please don’t hesitate to call the church office for assistance (203-227-2728).  We will be delighted to assist you in any way that we can.

If you are facing a personal struggle and would like to connect with a staff member on Sunday, please let one of our staff members know of your need after the service.  Our staff members are available after the service to speak with you and help you to find the right resources to assist you.

We look forward to having you join us on Sunday!
