Confirmation affords teens an opportunity to explore issues of faith in anticipation of making an intentional decision to live their lives as committed Christians. Meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings in small groups facilitated by clergy and adult leaders, class members participate in a variety of activities relevant to the topic of discussion. Additionally, time is set aside for personal reflection.
Confirmands participate in Faith Adventures, experiencing first hand different church and faith-based organizations in our community. Confirmands also learn about the responsibilities of church membership by volunteering as Sunday morning ushers, greeters, coffee hour hosts, and providing dinner to class members on Tuesday evenings.
A confirmation highlight is the annual week-long Mission Trip in June. Serving alongside other teens, confirmands learn from experience about the joy that givers can get from giving to others, and the rewards of living in Christian community. Participation is strongly encouraged as the trip serves as wonderful way of introducing confirmands to Icthus, our program for high school youth, as they move forward on their faith journeys.
Confirmation is for 8th graders and is a 5-month program beginning January 4, 2013 with an overnight retreat, and concluding May 19, 2013, Confirmation Sunday. Tuesday classes begin January 8 from 6:00-7:30PM. A 2013 calendar of Confirmation classes and activities is linked to this web page for your information. An important aspect of the Confirmation Journey is participation in various aspects of the life of Green's Farms Church. Rosters are posted here for ushering & greeting, helping with fellowship hour and hosting dinner on Tuesday evenings. Worship duty instructions and fellowship instructions are posted and will also be included in the email reminders that will be sent prior to your scheduled shift. The deal with Tuesday dinners is that you and your co host make a plan and show up early enough so that dinner can be served promptly at 6 p.m. The group is 30 strong this year, tables will be set up but you will need to bring paper goods, utensils, beverages, etc. and please plan to stay for clean up. stove, ovens and microwaves are available if needed. If you are unable to fulfill your commitment, please arrange for a shift swap with another confirmation family and let Rebecca and Alison know. Questions may be directed to Rebecca Floyd.
